Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the title dispersion having a high solid content and excellent stability by using a specific ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer as a dispersing agent to disperse an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer into water.
CONSTITUTION: An ionizable compound (e.g. sodium acrylate) is block- copolymerized with or grafted onto a saponified ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer having an ethylene content of 10-70mol% and a degree of saponification of 80mol% or higher. The resulting copolymer is used as a dispersing agent to disperse an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having an ethylene content of 15-65mol% into an aqueous medium to produce an aqueous dispersion of the copolymer. Applying and drying the dispersion gives a film excellent in gas- barrier property, flavor preservation, etc.
