To obtain the subject recording liquid excellent in dispersibility and long storage stability of a pigment in an aqueous liquid medium and further capable of exhibiting water resistance and weather resistance by using a carbon black treated with a specific surface finishing process as the pigment.
This recording liquid is prepared by using, as a pigment, a surface finished carbon black treated with a surface finishing process consisting of graft polymerization of a vinyl groupcontaining monomer. As the vinyl group- containing monomer, (meth)acrylic acid, methyl (meth)acrylate, acrylonitrile, etc., is preferably used. Thus, dispersion stability owing to steric hindrance in an aqueous liquid medium and compatibility with a polymer dispersant are improved, and accordingly the resultant recording liquid is expected to be resistant for long storage.
