PURPOSE: To obtain the title dispersion not discolored over a long period of time inclusive of a formed film by adding guanidine when a halogen-containing monomer mixture is subjected to radical emulsion polymn. to adjust the pH value of a generated aq. polymer dispersion to a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture containing 10-100 wt.% of a halogen- containing monomer (e.g.; vinyl chloride) is polymerized in an aq. medium by a radical emulsion polymn. method and the pH value of the aq. phase of the generated aq. polymer dispersion is adjusted to 5-10 by adding guanidine and, at this time, guanidine is added before, during and/or after emulsion polymn. to obtain an aq. polymer dispersion. This dispersion and a film formed therefrom are not substantially discoloted even after long-term storage. The discoloration tendency of this aq. polymer dispersion is further reduced by adding 0.005-1 wt.% of an acting substance selected from glycerine, citric acid and the like to the monomer mixture.
