Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an aq. rust preventive material for metals which provides a better rust preventive effect than conventional aq. rust preventive materials consisting of zinc compds. by contg. a copolymer of polyalkylene glycol monoaryl ether and olefinic carboxylic acid, and compds. that can liberate zinc ions in water as effective components.

CONSTITUTION: An aq. rust preventive material for metals contg. the copolymer of the polyalkylene glycol expressed by the formulaI(e.g.; ethylene glycol monoaryl ether) and the olefinic carboxylic acid expressed by the formula II (e.g.; acrylic acid), and compds. that can liberate zinc ions in water (e.g.; zinc chloride) as effective components. The reaction ratio of the compd. of the formulaIand the compd. of the formula II is preferably 1:6W6:1 by weight of the respective monomers. The mol. wt. of the copolymer is usually 500W100,000, more particularly 1,000W5,000. The two effective components are usually used as a rust preventive material in the form of a liquid material dissolved in water or directly mixed powder materials.
