Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a suspension of poly(vinyl alcohol) and a method for applying the suspension to paper size-press starch solutions.
CONSTITUTION: The objective suspension is obtained by dispersing at least 20 wt.% of a poly(vinyl alcohol) into an aqueous solution containing at least one salt selected from the group comprising sodium formate, potassium formate, sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, sodium polyacrylate, potassium polyacrylate and their mixture. This aqueous suspension of poly(vinyl alcohol) is useful in systems in which poly(vinyl alcohol) is dissolved in order to reduce the time of dissolution.
