Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance the quality and efficiency of welding and reduce the facility cost and running cost, by constituting the circuits so as to apply electric current alternately to either one of opposedly located material being welded, and feeding a consumable electrode into the narrow gap and applying oscillation to the arc.

CONSTITUTION: When performing arc welding by feeding a consumable electrode 3 into a narrow gap 2 formed by materials being welded 1, 1' through a nozzle guide 3', in order to apply electric current alternately to either one of the materials being welded 1, 1', cables 7, 8 are connected by way of DC power source 5, cable 6 and switching circuit 9. By switching operation of the circuit 9, the arc changes the direction alternately to the material 1 side and material 1' side within the narrow gap 2, and effective oscillating motions are applied to the arc. As a result of this, it is not necessary to apply bending deformation, horizontal rotation or other motions to the welding wire, and the equipment may be miniaturized and the electric power may be saved. In addition, handling is easy and weld defect due to insufficient penetration may be eliminated.
