PURPOSE: To obtain the measured data of an area of a material to be measured simply at a low cost, by performing binary coding of the picture signal of the material to be measured, gating a clock signal by the binary coded signal, and performing counting.
CONSTITUTION: A material to be measured 1 is picked up by a TV camera 2, and the picture signal is imparted to a comparator circuit 6 through an amplifier circuit 4 and compared with a specified threshold level. Then binary coding is performed. A logic gate circuit 8 is gated by the binary coded signal. Clock pulses 8 are outputted only during the time period the picture signal of the material to be measured 1 is inputted. The clock signal is counted by a counting circuit 9. The result is inputted to an operating circuit 11, and the area of the material to be measured 1 is obtained by the computation.
