PURPOSE: To provide an area selection system in an image editing device capable of easily selecting an arbitrary area from plural areas being superimposed on a display screen.
CONSTITUTION: When a user instructs coordinates by a coordinate information input means 1, the coordinate information is supplied to an area selection means 3. The area selection means 3 retrieves all the areas on instructed coordinates from an area managing table 5, and stores a result. Meanwhile, a display control means 6 reads out an image in the area designated by the area managing table 5 from data memory 4 according to the position and attribute of the area, and displays it on a display device 7. In such a case, one of the areas stored in the area selection means 3 is selected by operating the switch, the pressure sensor, the dial, and the volume, etc., of an area selection information input means 2 by the user. Thereby, the user can perform editing work on a newly selected area.
