To prevent an arm rest from freely scattering even when locking of the arm rest with respect to a pedestal formed in a door trim of a side door is released in a side collision of a vehicle.
An arm rest device for a vehicle includes a pedestal 3 obtained by swelling a part of the door trim 1 attached to the side door to a cabin 2 side and forming an opening 5 penetrating in the vertical direction in an upper face plate 4, the arm rest 8 placed on the upper face plate 4 of the pedestal 3, and a locking implement 10 making the arm rest 8 lockable to the upper face plate 4 of the pedestal 3 by downwardly moving (A) the arm rest 8 in an upper area 9 of the upper face plate 4 of the pedestal 3. An engaging implement 22 making the arm rest 8 engageable with respect to the pedestal 3 by generally horizontal movement (B) of the arm rest 8 toward one direction in the upper area 9 of the upper face plate 4 of the pedestal 3 is provided. The arm rest 8 is allowed to be locked to the upper face plate 4 of the pedestal 3 in the engaging state of the arm rest 8 with the pedestal 3 by the engaging implement 22.
