Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:19-Azido-4-androstene-3,17-dione expressed by formula I.

USE: Useful for treating estrogen-dependent tumor, e.g. mammary cancer, uterine cancer, etc., as an estrogen biosynthesis inhibitor.

PREPARATION: For example, 19-hydroxy-4-androstene-3,17-dione expressed by formula II is reacted with a sulfonylating agent, e.g. trifluoromethanesulfonic acid anhydride, etc., in a solvent, e.g pyridine, etc., as necessary, in the presence of a base to give a compound expressed by formula III, which is then reacted with sodium azide in a large excess in a solvent, e.g. DMF, etc., while heating for some ten hours.
