To obtain the subject new compound useful as a raw material for liquid crystal materials, electronic materials, gas-permeable membrane, or the like.
This new compound is represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or a substituent; Q is a group of atoms forming a cyclic structure, being substitutable; (m) and (n) are each 0-4), e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reaction between a compound of formula III (X is iodine or bromine) (e.g. 4-bromoiodobenzene) and a compound of formula IV (e.g. carbazole) under heating in the presence of copper powder and a base such as calcium carbonate to form a compound, which, in turn, is reacted with a compound of the formula HC≡C-G (G is a protective group) (e.g. 3-methyl-1-butyn-3-ol) under heating reflux in the presence of palladium chloride, triphenylphosphine, copper iodide and triethylamine followed by deprotection.
