Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the subject novel compound useful as an intermediate for producing various organic industrial chemicals such as herbicides and polyurethanes and organic functional materials, etc., by chloroformating one of the phenolic hydroxy groups of a bisphenol compound.
CONSTITUTION: The objective aromatic chloroformate compound of the formula (R is 1-20C alkyl; X is 1-8C alkylene, O, S; Z1-Z4 are H1 1-4C alkyl halogen) is obtained by dissolving 2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4"-methoxyphenyl)propane, etc., in methylene chloride, cooling the solution in water, blowing phosgene through the solution for 1hr, dropping diethylaniline to the solution, heating the reaction mixture to room temperature, vacuum-distilling off an excessive amount of phosgene and the methylene chloride, adding benzene to the residue, filtering out the insoluble diethylaniline hydrochloride, washing the filtrate with diluted hydrogen chloride, separating the washed filtrate, drying the filtrate, and subsequently distilling off the benzene.
