PURPOSE: To obtain a resin composition excellent in heat resistance, chemical resistance, mechanical strengths and processability and low in water absorptivity, by mixing a polyamide-imide with a polyimide having specified repeating units.
CONSTITUTION: This resin composition comprises 100 pts.wt. polyamide-imide and 1W100 pts.wt. polyimide having repeating units of formula I (wherein X is carbonyl or sulfonyl, and R is a tetravalent group selected from among a 2 C or higher aliphatic group, a cycloaliphatic group, a monocyclic aromatic group, a condensed polycyclic aromatic group and a noncondensed polycyclic aromatic group composed of aromatic groups bonded directly or through a bridging member). An aromatic polyamide-imide which can be particularly desirably used is one having repeating units of formula II or III. Said polyimide can be obtained by imidating a polyamic acid obtained by reacting 4,4'-bis[4-(4- amino-α,α-dimethylbenzyl)phenoxy]benzophenone or the like with a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride.
