Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic polycarodiimide that has high heat resistance and high moisture resistance, and can be used as a heat resistant coating material for soldering processes in production of electronic parts by polymerizing a specific aromatic diisocyanate as a monomer.
SOLUTION: This aromatic polycarbodiimide, having its structural unit of the formula [(n) is an integer of 2-400; X is H or fluorine), is obtained by polymerizing a 2,2'-dimethyl or 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-diisocyanate biphenyl as the monomer in the presence of a phosphorus-based catalyst by a well known method. Although this monomer is a new compound, application of this monomer can provide films, moldings and adhesives which have excellent characteristics, such as high dimensional stability.
