PURPOSE: To obtain the title polycarbonate film improved in amorphousness, transparency, heat resistance, mechanical strengths, low moisture-permeability and surface hardness, by molding a polycarbonate having specified repeating units.

CONSTITUTION: A dihydric phenol compound (A) of formula I (wherein R1W2 are each a halogen or a 1W6C alkyl, R3W4 are each R1, H or a 1W6C alkoxy, and l and m are each 0W4), e.g., 4,4'-dihydroxytetraphenylmethane, is reacted with phosgene (B) at 0W150°C and, desirably, a pH ≥10 for 0.5minW10hr in a solvent in the presence of an acid binder to obtain a polycarbonate of a reduced viscosity of 0.3W3.0dl/g, having repeating units of formula II. This polycarbonate is molded to obtain the title film of a thickness of 0.1W1,000μm.
