To obtain chips made of aromatic polycarbonate obtained by a transesterification process and showing uniform quality in a storage container by specifying the shape of the chips and specifying the range of their angle of repose in the storage container.
This polycarbonate is obtained by transesterifying a mixture mainly containing an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic diester in the presence of a catalyst comprising an alkali metal compound and/or an alkaline earth metal compound and a nitrogenous basic compound. The polycarbonate is in the form of chips satisfying the relationships: L/D1=0.8-1.1; and D1/D2=1.1-2.0 wherein L is the length; D1 is the longer diameter; and D2 is the shorter diameter. The angle of repose of the chips on the bottom of the storage container is 40-50 degrees. The quality of chips herein used means an average molecular weight, a hue, a foreign matter content, a fine content, etc., and uniform quality means that the chips have a small dispersion in each of the above properties.
