PURPOSE: To damp the torsional vibration at the time of an earthquake or the like by arranging more damping devices provided with damping members damping the sway of a liquid in a liquid tank filled with the liquid on the side apart from the center of rigidity of a building at the upper section of the structure than on the opposite side.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid tank 5a filled with a liquid forming a flat wave water surface 5f having the lengthy direction in the wave direction is provided, damping devices 5 provided with damping members such as meshes 5c, bulkheads 5d, projections 5e damping the sway of the liquid are prepared in the liquid tank 5a. More damping devices 5 are installed on the side apart from the center of rigidity of the structure 1 such as side faces 3b and 3e at the upper section of the structure 1 than on the opposite side. The vibration energy is absorbed in the uniform state to the extent possible even if the center of rigidity G is displaced from the center of gravity W in the horizontal plane, and the torsional vibration centering the center of rigidity can be effectively absorbed.
