Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the gain of an array antenna.
SOLUTION: A dielectric lens 6, the outside dimension of which is about 0.5 to 1.5 of a wavelength is arranged at the front side of each slot 3 of a waveguide slot array antenna 1. Dielectric lenses 6 has a panel structure such that they are connected in a single body through a dielectric panel 7, covering the front of the antenna. A spherical wave radiated from a slot is converted into a plane wave by a dielectric lens 6. A combined waveform of waves radiated from each slot becomes a plane wave with few ripples to improve the antenna gain remarkably in comparison with an antenna with no dielectric lenses.
