A control means performs the information detection operation for detecting information on the presence of any object whether or not any article B is present on a beam 8 and information on the beam distance to the beam 8 in the vertical direction based on information of detection of the object detection sensor 22 when the transfer device 12 is elevated/lowered at the preset stop position set corresponding to the beam 8, and controls the respective operations of an elevating/lowering drive means and the transfer device 12 so as to transfer the article B between the beam and itself based on information on the presence of any object and information on the beam distance in the information detecting operation.
