Bread 14 is conveyed to an access conveyor 16 in the attitude along the article transferring direction of an article transfer device 11. The bread 14 is pressed to the downstream side by a push-feed member 22 of a push-feed conveyor 23. The bread 14 to be pushed by the push-feed member 22 is transferred to a feed conveyor 24 arranged on the downstream side of the access conveyor 16. A pair of transfer conveyors 25 and 25 are disposed above the feed conveyor 24 separately in the width direction. The transfer conveyor 25 starts the forward advancement of the supporting member at the timing when the press-feed member 22 can hold and secure the bread 14 by the supporting member, and the bread 14 is transferred to a bag opening means 32 while holding and securing the bread in the longitudinal direction by the supporting member and the press-feed member 22.
