The article treatment device is provided with a conveying part 30 for conveying a card-like article along a predetermined conveying passage; a value memory part 21 for memorizing a reference value regarding a value corresponding to thickness of the article; a thickness measurement part 40 for measuring a value corresponding to the thickness of the article; a thickness memory part 22 for memorizing the measurement result by the thickness measurement part 40; a taking-in determination part 23 for determining whether or not the article is conveyed from a predetermined position on the conveying passage to a further downstream side based on the measurement result by the thickness measurement part 40 and the reference value memorized in the value memory part 21; a clogging detection part 80 for detecting clogging of the article in the downstream than the predetermined position on the conveying passage; and a changing part 25 for changing the reference value memorized in the value memory part 21 based on the measurement result memorized in the thickness memory part 22 when the clogging detection part 80 detects clogging of the article.
