PURPOSE: To obtain an artificial dental root together having both of mechanical characteristics and biological synthetic characteristics by continuously changing the compositional ratio of alumina and hydroxyapatite (HAP).
CONSTITUTION: An artificial dental root is composed of a fundamental composition consisting of alumina and HAP and the compositional ratio of alumina and HAP changes continuously. In a sol-gel method using an aluminum source, a calcium source, a phosphorus source and metal alkoxide as starting raw materials, by separating formed sol-like alumina and sol-like HAP on the basis of the difference between the specific gravities thereof, the compositional ratio of alumina and HAP is continuously changed. In the case of the artificial dental root, the part embedded in a living body is composed of a composition having a high HAP ratio in a compositional ratio and has excellent bio-compatibility. since the part protruding from a living body to the outside is composed of a composition having a high alumina ratio in a compositional ratio, said part has high mechanical strength. Since the compositional ratio of respective sols are continuously changed by using the sol-gel method and utilizing the specific gravity difference between two kinds of sols, the artificial dental root together having two characteristics of bio-compatibility and high strength can be easily prepared.
