PURPOSE: An artificial feed for silkworm in which xanthane gum and low-cast gum are used as binders so that silkworm eats it more favoritely than the feed made using agar-agar as a binder and better rearing results are obtained.
CONSTITUTION: To the base components of aritificial feed containing the powder of mulberry leaf, defatted soybean, cellulose, etc., are added 0.5W1wt% of xanthane gum and 4W6wt% of low-cast bean gum. The mixture is kneaded with water, heated, cooled and molded into said artificial feed for silkworm. Since these gums are more inexpensive than agar-agar, the costs of the feed can be reduced and further silkworms bred with the feed give better results in mechanical strength of cocoon, healthiness and cocoon layer yield than those bred with the other feed using agar-agar as a binder.
