PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an artificial leather having excellent stretchability by which the stretchability, especially the stretchability in the longitudinal direction that cannot be achieved by a conventional method, can be imparted without lowering the surface grade of the artificial leather.
SOLUTION: This artificial leather is composed of a fiber-entangled material mainly comprising ultrafine fibers having ≤0.9 dtex single fiber fineness and a high polymeric elastic body. The artificial leather has the excellent stretchability, ≥15% elongation in the longitudinal direction and ≥80% elongation recovery ratio in the longitudinal direction and comprises a polymeric layer formed on the surface on at least one side. The method for producing the artificial leather having the excellent stretchability comprises bonding a shrinkable sheet shrinking at ≥10% in the longitudinal direction by a shrinking treatment to the surface on at least one side of the artificial leather composed of the fiber-entangled material mainly comprising the ultrafine fibers having ≤0.9 dtex single fiber fineness and the polymeric elastic body, than carrying out the shrinking treatment and then removing the shrinkable sheet.
