Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain artificial marble having excellent interlaminar bonding, transparency, quality feeling and an onyx-like appearance in excellent productivity by backing a thermoplastic acrylic resin layer with a vinyl ester resin.
CONSTITUTION: This artificial marble comprises a thermoplastic acrylic resin layer and a vinyl ester resin. The artificial marble is obtained, for example, by arranging a transparent molded article of a thermoplastic acrylic resin in a lower frame, laying an upper frame on the molded article and casting an artificial marble composition comprising the vinyl ester resin into a gap between the upper frame and the molded article of the thermoplastic acrylic resin. Or, the transparent molded article of the thermoplastic acrylic resin is arranged in the lower frame and coated with a primer layer composed of the vinyl ester resin, the upper frame is placed on the primer layer and the artificial marble composition comprising an unsaturated polyester resin is cast into the gap between the upper frame and the molded article of the acrylic resin.
