NEW MATERIAL: A compd. represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each H, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy, R3 is H or 1-6C alkyl, R4 and R5 are each H or combined to form a bond, R6 and R7 are each H or combined to form O or s and either one of them is H and the other one of them is OH or SCH3, X is S, SO or SO2 and Q is CH2, O or NR8 (R8 is H, 1-6C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or 2-6C alkenyl)] or its salt.
EXAMPLE: 5-{[3,5-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]methylene}-2-thioxo-4- thiazolidinone.
USE: This new material is useful for treating inflammation and arthritis, preventing ischemia induced cell damage and treating a dystrophic mammal.
PROCESS: For example, a compd. represented by formula II and a compd. represented by formula III (Q is CH2 or BR8 and R6 and R7 are combined to form S or O) are reacted to obtain the corresponding compd. represented by formula I.
