USE: A leukotriene antagonist.
PREPARATION: An aldehyde of formula VI is reacted with a phosphorus compound of formula V [V is formula VI or formula VII (R11 and R12 are each an alkyl or phenyl), etc.] to give a compound of formula VIII. The product is reacted with a compound of the formula H-X-R to give a compound of formula I.
