NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or 1-6C alkyl; Ar is substitutive phenyl).
EXAMPLE: Diammine(4-hydroxybenzylideneglycolato)platinum.
USE: An antitumor agent, sufficiently soluble in water and having powerful antitumor activity.
PREPARATION: A dinitratoplatinum complex expressed by formula II is subjected to ion exchange using a column filled with an anion exchange resin to provide an aqueous solution of a dihydroxoplatinum complex expressed by formula III. An aqueous solution of an α-hydroxycinnamic acid expressed by formula IV is then added to the aforementioned aquecus solution and reacted therewith at ambient temperature. Water is subsequently distilled away from the aqueous solution and the resultant solid substance is then washed with an organic solvent such as ether to afford the objective high-purity compound expressed by formula I.
