Abstract:
There are provided aryne intermediates of formula I, useful in the manufacture of herbicidal compounds. Also provided is a method to prepare the formula I intermediates via the palladium catalyzed coupling of an o-halonitrobenzene or o-haloaniline with 3-butyne-1-ol. The compounds of formula (I) can be hydrated to produce the compounds of formula (II), themselves intermedites towards the preparation of sulphanoyl urea derivatives of formula (VII). In the above formulae, X is NO2 or NR1R2, Z is OH, Br, Cl or OSO2R3, R, R1, R2, R3, R5, R7 and A having the values given in the application.
