PURPOSE: To perform reliable assembly of a piston ring into the ring groove of a piston by providing a mounting means to mount a piston ring into the ring groove in such a way that resilient deformation is effected in a diameter reducing direction in a position facing a piston positioned through downward slide along the outer periphery of a large diametral part.
CONSTITUTION: The upper part of a piston 1 raised by a clamper drive mechanism 70 enters the large diametral part 158 of a ring magazine 144. A ring groove at the topmost stage is covered with the large diametral part 158. In a state that a second ring groove is protruded, a support claw 174 is lowered and a piston ring 3 is dislocated from the lower end face of the large diametral part 158 and driven to a position facing a second ring groove 2. Along with the drive, the piston ring 3 is resiliently deformed in a diameter reducing direction and dislocated from the support groove 178 of a support claw 174 and enters the second ring groove 2 of the piston 1. Namely, the piston ring 3 mounted on the ring magazine 144 is assembled into the ring groove of the piston 1.
