Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new compound useful as a separating agent capable of separating and purifying many kinds of compounds, especially capable of supplying the intermediates of medicines, compounds useful in the fields of various kinds of fine chemicals, more especially optically active compounds, in high purities and in large amounts.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (Ar, Ar' are aromatic groups; preferably Ar is phenyl and Ar' is o-chlorophenyl; the positional relation between two substituents on the central benzene ring may be either of ortho, meta and para), especially an optically active compound, e.g. a compound of formula II (Ph is phenyl). The compound can readily be produced by subjecting a compound of formula III and a compound of formula IV (X is halogen) to a mutual double coupling reaction in the presence of a transition metal catalyst. The compound (host compound) can be utilized for the separation of any other compound (guest compound) from its mixture or the purification of the third substance polluted by the guest compound by utilizing that the compound (host compound) forms a clathrate compound with the other compound (guest compound).
