Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize the effective method for assessing the quality and/or presence of a digital RDS signal demodulated in biphase.
SOLUTION: A bit transmission rate clock signal is generated on a receiver side at the same transmission speed with the RDS signal, a bit of the RDS signal consists of two half bits, and a bit of the bit transmission rate clock signal consists of two RDS half bits belonging to one RDS bit. One of the two half bits is positive and the other is negative; and the number of codes of positive and negative phases is determined included in a former-half RDS signal in half-bit periods each consisting of 'n' adjacent half bits of the bit transmission rate clock signal so as to assess the quality and/or presence. The RDS signal is assessed as a signal of good quality or low quality according to whether or not the rate of the determined number of positive and negative phase codes in half-bit periods matches a predetermined rate number, and an odd number which is larger than 2 is used as the value (n).
