To provide a simple and inexpensive method for manufacturing an optically active alcohol of high optical purity, and a novel optically active ruthenium compound useful as a catalyst.
The optically active ruthenium compound is prepared from a ruthenium complex represented by formula (1) (wherein A is an aromatic ligand; and X is a halogen ion) and an optically active ligand represented by formula (2) (wherein Ca and Cb are each a carbon atom; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, and at least one of them is different from the others; and R5, R6 and R7 are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like). The manufacturing method of the optically active alcohol comprises reacting the optically active ruthenium compound with a ketone compound in the presence of a secondary alcohol.
