Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM communication network which can flexibly deal with the increase of the traffic and also can satisfy the requested quality of every service class by using a means to convert the cell received from a local area network LAN into an optical cell that defines the wavelength set according to its destination as a carrier and then to transfer the optical cell to a center network.
SOLUTION: A center network 50 includes the optical wavelength cross connection devices 3-1 to 3-4 as the optical wavelength routing means where the output routes of optical cells to be inputted are set according to the carrier wavelengths of these cells. The cells of high and lower priority service classes are mixed in the cells sent from the LAN 2-1 to 2-4, and each of access control parts 1-1 to 1-4 has two buffers to store the cells of each service class. Then a controller part allocates the wavelengths to the cells which are read out of both buffers, and the cells of every service class are transferred to the network 50.
