PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the equipment provided with all the functions required for linking between the equipment and a switch by providing a means that applies pre-/post-pending of information to a specific cell and eliminates information from a cell leaving the switch. SOLUTION: A signal received by a link 16 is received by an equipment 14, which converts an input signal to an ATM cell with a correct protocol and provides an output of the cell to a path 22. The signal of the path 22 is directed to a corresponding to equipment 10. The equipment 10 conducts all required ATM layer functions. The cell processed by the equipment 10 is outputted to a path 23 by the equipment 10 and directed to a switch 12. An output of the switch 12 is given to a path 25 and sent through other equipment 28. The equipment 28 routes a cell by a path 32 as directed by cell identification or as designated by the switch 12 for each cell.
