To easily and accurately judge atrial fibrillation when detecting a pulse wave RR interval equal to an electrocardiographic RR spacing or a pulse wave peak-to-peak interval (pulse wave bottom-to-bottom interval) equivalent to it from the pulse wave waveform of a living body and judging arrhythmia.
From a 100-beat RR interval obtained by a pulse oxymeter and stored in a storage means 13, a deviation detection part 21 obtains a standard deviation, and a histogram preparation part 22 prepares the frequency distribution of the standard deviations. Then, from the shape of the frequency distribution, a distribution state analysis part 23 discriminates the atrial fibrillation when there is one peak and the extent is large for instance, discriminates extrasystole when there are a plurality of peaks, and discriminates normality when there is one peak and the width is narrow. Thus, the atrial fibrillation requiring immediate treatment is automatically and accurately detected without the need of diagnosing by a doctor from pulse waves without burdens on a patient.
