PURPOSE: To provide an audio reproducing device where a fixed sound volume characteristic can be obtained regardless of a selected music genre at the same time when the music genre is selected while an optimum frequency characteristic is automatically set.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a storage means 12 for storing an optimum equalizer characteristic and a sound volume characteristic every genre, a mode setting means 13 for setting the mode of each musical genre by the operation from the outside, an equalizer characteristic selection means 14 for selecting the corresponded equalizer characteristic from the storage means 12 based on the mode set by the mode setting means 13 and a sound volume characteristic selection means 15 for selecting the corresponded sound volume characteristic from the storage means 12 based on the mode set by the mode setting means 13, and this device reproduces a sound according to the equalizer characteristic selected by the equalizer characteristic selection means 14 and the sound volume characteristic selected by the sound volume characteristic selection means 15.
