To provide an austenitic stainless steel whose cold workability can be relatively easily improved using a refining technique similar to the conventional one.

The austenitic stainless steel comprises, by weight, ≤0.020% C, ≤0.50% Si, 0.30 to 2.00% Mn, ≤0.050% P, ≤0.005% S, 8.0 to 12.0% Ni, 16.0 to 20.0% Cr, 2.0 to 5.0% Cu, 0.0030 to 0.0250% B, ≤0.020% O and ≤0.040% N, and the balance substantially Fe with inevitable impurities.
