To attain miniaturization, weight reduction and a long service life of an auto tensioner by linearly pressing a pivot shaft into a tensioner arm, and ensuring press-in force, pull-out force and sliding torque while shortening the press-in depth of the tensioner arm and pivot shaft.
The tensioner arm 10 of the auto tensioner 60 comprises a tapered fitting hole 13. A press-in part 21 of the pivot shaft 20 journaling the tensioner arm 10 has a diameter larger than the fitting hole 13. The press-in part 21 is pressed into the fitting hole 13. The press-in depth is not more than 1.2 times the diameter of the press-in part 21. The pivot shaft 20 is linearly and firmly pressed into the fitting hole 13 by the diameter difference between the press-in part 21 and the fitting hole 13 and the engagement of level difference provided at the pivot shaft 20 and a connecting part 14 respectively.
