To provide an auto tensioner easy to assemble without requiring high machining accuracy.
Operating oil is reserved in a cylinder 10, a sleeve 13 is fitted to a sleeve fitting recessed portion 11 of the cylinder 10, a bolt 18 inserted into a through-hole 17 in a bottom 12 of the sleeve 13 is screwed into a screw hole 19 in the sleeve fitting recessed portion 11 and fixed to the sleeve 13, and a rod 14 is inserted into the sleeve 13. The cylinder 10 is partitioned into a pressure chamber 15 and a reservoir chamber 16 with the rod 14 an the sleeve 13, and the pressure chamber 15 and the reservoir chamber 16 are connected with each other via a leak clearance 25. A return spring 27 is provided for energizing the rod 14, and a passage 24 is formed between the fitted faces of the sleeve 13 and the sleeve fitting recessed portion 11 for connecting the pressure chamber 15 and the reservoir chamber 16 via a valve hole 23 of the sleeve 13. A valve element 22 provided on the pressure chamber side of the bottom 12 is held by a stepped portion 21 of the bolt 18 for allowing the operating oil in the valve hole 23 to flow only from the reservoir chamber side to the pressure chamber side.
