To provide an auto focus auxiliary light apparatus equipped with an illuminating means with less energy loss, even in the case the apparatus uses illumination that imparts a photographing timing in a self-timer mode also as AF auxiliary light.

In the self-timer mode, the user moves a switch lever 1, then, a switch 2 is turned on linked with the switch lever 1, then, a CPU recognizes that the apparatus has gone into the self-timer mode. The switch lever 1 also interlocks with a diffusion plate 4, then, at the same time when the switch lever 1 is moved upward, the diffusion plate 4 is arranged in front of an auxiliary light LED 3. When the user depresses a release button, in a state where the diffusion plate 4 descends in front of the auxiliary LED 3, the auxiliary LED starts flickering, and after the lapse of a prescribed time by a self timer, the switch lever 1 is lowered, then, at photographing, photographing is performed in a state where the diffusion plate 4 is not present in front of the auxiliary LED 3.
