PURPOSE: To provide an automatic bar machining NC lathe and its machining method which is capable of detecting the length of a bar and of performing adequate operations in response to the detected length of the bar.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic bar machining NC lathe consists of a NC lathe having a first main spindle and a second main spindle which are located opposite to each other to cooperatively machine a product, and a bar supply device for supplying bars to the NC lathe. Besides, a first position detecting means (LSA) for detecting the most forward position of a feed arrow for advancing the bar, a second position detecting means (LAB) which is located in the rear of the first position detecting means (LSA) to detect the position of the feed arrow at which the length of the bar reaches a first specified length, and a third position detecting means (LAC) which is located behind the first position detecting means (LSA) by a second specified length, are provided.
