PURPOSE: To automate labeling of new year postcards by reading out a code assigned to an article sent on a line at the timing detected by a sensor and comparing the code with previously registered data to recognize the code.
CONSTITUTION: The lottery No. and group No. of a new year postcard are detected by television cameras 350, 360 respectively. The lottery No. read out by a CPU312 is transferred to a CPU324 through an I/F circuit 330 and stored in a RAM325. Then, the lottery No. is transferred to a labeling device 40 through an I/F circuit 331 together with the group No. read out by a CPU324. If the continuity of the lottery Nos. to be tested by a CPU307 is lost, the CPU307 applies a line stop signal to a lapping device 20 through a line stop circuit 332.
