PURPOSE: To improve quality and working efficiency of welding in the stage of build-up welding the end face of a cylindrical object to be welded by shifting a torch position at every one pass and welding continuously one layer.
CONSTITUTION: The entire circumference at the end face of a cylindrical object 3 to be welded is welded by a tungsten inert gas arc (TIG) welding torch 5 to form the 1st layer of one pass P1. The arc is held generated as it is upon completion of such welding and a torch 5 is shifted at a specified pitch in the diametral direction of the object 3 and welding of the 2nd pass P2 is executed. Such shift is then repeated until the welding of the 1st layer is completed. The welding of the 2nd layer is thereafter completed by repeating the above-mentioned welding. The quality and working efficiency of welding are improved by the above-mentioned method.
