Abstract:
PURPOSE:To deploy the sail automatically and to enable modification of the attack angle by fixing a rewindable deploying wire to the lower end sections at the opposite sides of a frame movable through a motor and a sail windable around a pipe. CONSTITUTION:Rotation of a sail shrinking motor 7 is transmitted through a longitudinal shaft 6 for driving a sail shrinking pipe - a gear mechanism - a lateral shaft for driving the sail shrinking pipe - gear mechanisms at the opposite sides of the lateral shaft - a sail shrinking pipe 4, thus enabling winding of a sail 5 having edge fixed to the sail shrinking pipe 4. When the sail 5 is deployed, sail deploying wires fixed to the lower edges at the opposite sides are pulled simultaneously or individually by means of a winch(not shown) to stretch the sail 5 through pulleys arranged at the opposite sides of the sail shrinking pipe 4 and in the central section. Alternately, the sail can be deployed by rotating the sail shrinking pipe 4 and winding the wires around the pipe end. Attack angle against the wind can also be regulated by rotating a movable frame 1 through a motor 8.
