PURPOSE: To enable automatic display to a displaying medium of a shape of automatically measured article, by introducing profile data obtained from a controller to a displaying medium after calculation and digitization with a computer.

CONSTITUTION: A specimen 2 is detected by optical transistors 1a arranged in a single line. Further, with solid image pick-up element 1 emitting luminosity dependent outputs and article carrier 4 moving the specimen 2 in the direction perpendicular to that in which the transistors 1a are arranged, starting as well as ending positions of luminosity distinction of the specimen 2 by the element 1 are conformed for integration of pattern data of the specimen 2. Next, these data are converted to the profile data by a controller 5 and the profile data are digitized by a computer 6 and calculation is performed for introducing them into a displaying medium. Consequently, accurate and rapid depiction of the specimen shape and easy display and measurement of the condition in any position become available.
