PURPOSE: To erase a silent part with a simple operation.

CONSTITUTION: After an optical pickup 3 is placed at an arbitrary position after a silent part existing at a first part of a desired track while reproducing with fast forwarding a mini-disk 1 for recording and reproducing which is already recorded, a front silent part erasing key of an operation section 14 is pressed. Then, a system controller 19 monitors output of an audio level detecting section 18, searches out a silent part being -70 dB or less, and specifies a finish point of the silent part by making an optical pickup detecting point at the time the specified point and reproducing from the start position of the present track to the specified point. And track separation is performed at the searched finish point, while the front side track being the silent part out of two separated tracks is erased.
