PURPOSE: To obtain adequate exposure with extremely high probability by performing photometry in a state where a visual field is finely divided to many areas on comparatively high brightness.
CONSTITUTION: Brightness value obtained by performing photometry by a photometric element 11 and converting it by a brightness information converting means 21 is read. The output of elements adjoining each other in a side line direction is synthesized by three. Furthermore, the exposure value is calculated based on a first algorithm by using the brightness value obtained from the photometric element 11. Next, the brightness value obtained by performing photometry by the photometric element 19 and converting it by the brightness information converting means 27 is read. The exposure value is calculated according to a second algorithm by using five brightness values obtained from the photometric element 19. The calculated value is displayed on a display means 26 through a display controlling means 25. The exposure controlling means 24 drives a shutter 14 and a diaphragm 4, controls them to the calculated exposure value and finishes photographing.
