This automatic flat knitting machine is equipped with needle beds for arranging a plurality of knitting needles in parallel to make the needles freely advance and retreat, and with a yarn carrier 57 for supplying yarn Y to the needle beds, wherein a tension compensation device 5 for moderating tension fluctuation of the supplied yarn Y is positioned in a yarn passage for supplying the yarn Y to the yarn carrier 57, and the tension compensation device 5 is composed of a pair of support rollers 1, 2 and a travelling guide 3 which is positioned between the support rollers 1, 2 to be freely travelled.
