Abstract:

To provide an automatic focus device in which at least one of an AF accuracy and an AF operation speed can be improved.

An AF scan start position is set to a position which is located outside a start position of a predetermined initial scan range and which allows at least one focus evaluation value to be calculated while a focus lens is moved from the start position of AF scan up to the start position of the initial scan range. Then, the focus lens is driven to the start position of the AF scan, immediately thereafter the AF scan is started, and a peak position of the focus evaluation value is calculated without using a focus evaluation value calculated first among focus evaluation values obtained before the AF scan is terminated.
